OUR JUROR: PATTY RAE WELLBORN
Patty is a working artist living in Abilene, Texas. She and her two partners, Linda Stricklin and Mary Haan, own and operate Calypso Gallery Academy of Art where they also maintain studios and a classroom for teaching various art mediums.
“My earliest memory of drawing is of around the age of three years old. I remember drawing my grandmothers goldfish. It’s a vivid memory. I’m the oldest of the grandchildren. I was sitting alone at the coffee table and I remember the adults were sitting in the kitchen area. I can’t remember anything anyone said but, I remember my thinking. I was drawing circles with lines streaming from them all in one direction. I was amazed at how those lines made the little circular fish look like they were swimming. That is when I became aware of the power of lines in a drawing. In the abstract I paint today I continue to use the power of lines to create movement and interest in my paintings and drawings.”Patty Rae Wellborn
Mastering the art of expressive realism had been a lifelong goal of hers, but she also enjoys the expressive and spontaneous nature of abstract painting. Patty enjoys the physicality of oil paint. When she was a child, her mother encouraged playing with art supplies. In fact, she was allowed to play outside in mud. She would build houses and carve out roads and try to make lakes which never seemed to hold the water! Smearing paint around is much like playing in multiple colors of pigmented mud. She paints in many layers using mediums such as cold wax or Liquid Impasto to build up texture, and she also uses a multitude of tools to create texture or crevices in the paint.
This is a national/international competition open to all artists 21 years of age and over. Artwork that has been exhibited at the BFAC Juried Art Show in the past is not eligible to be entered in the Juried Show. Original artwork must not be older than 3 years, except in Bronze Sculpture.
Original 2- and 3-dimensional art only. No photography, prints, or computer-generated artwork will be accepted.
Boundary measurement of framed art shall not exceed 200 inches. Boundary measurement is determined by adding the length and width measurements together and multiplying by 2.

24 + 30= 54 | 54 x 2= 108″ (round numbers up.
