A life-long artist, Zachry’s paintings are owned by hundreds of individuals and corporations nationwide. Zachry was instrumental in organizing the Development Corporation of Abilene serving as its first president and helping Abilene become the first city in Texas to utilize sales tax for economic development. He conceptualized and coordinated the establishment of Frontier Texas!, a historical entertainment and regional visitor center featuring many of his murals in downtown Abilene.
Zachry has been honored as Abilene’s Outstanding Citizen, Outstanding Businessperson, Abilene’s Distinguished Citizen and has received its Hero of Tourism award as well as the Volunteer Service Award.

JoAn graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1957. Her family had settled in Stephens County prior to 1878. After retiring from ACU, she began her dream of being a working artist, starting J. Wilks Art. JoAn is an accomplished painter, photographer, potter and silversmith.
She describes her art as visual stories. Southwestern people, landscapes, wildlife, geology, nature, historical sites, missions and religious icons are powerful inspirations for her artwork.
